Big Bend Ranch State Park
April 2007

Big Bend Ranch State Park consists of basically two parts: One part is accessible from highway Texas FM 170 between Lajitas and Presidio. This runs along the Rio Grande River and is said to be the most beautiful road section in Texas. The interior of the park is accessible via a 30 mile washboarded gravel road ending at the Sauceda Ranch Headquarters.

Note at left the traditional fence made of ocotillo branches, some of which have sprouted.

The park maintains a small herd of longhorn cattle. There are two old movie sets on the property, one on FM170 and the other on an interior road. There are also several locations with petroglyphs and grinding holes.
