Padre Island National Seashore offers campground camping for a small fee and free beachfront camping. Services in the campground include flush toilets, cold showers and a garbage dumpster. No services are provided on the beach. Access to the beach camping is on sand. The first few miles are generally hard sand. Beyond that is four wheel drive only.
There is a visitors center and at least during some seasons evening talks and various talks and walks.
The beach was covered with a lot of seaweed (sargassum) which comes in with the waves from the gulf. I found it very difficult to identify the shore birds -- all of whom seemed gray brown, at least at this time of year.
