Frances (unk) Adams Routt, widow of William Adams prior to marriage to Richard Routt, has been linked to a maiden name of "Bale or Bayley," but no record of proof other than an Ancestry tree was referenced by " Early Colonial Settlers of Southern Maryland and Virginia's Northern Neck Counties. The research note explanation and sources provide evidence the maiden name of "Bale" to be incorrect. Frances (unk) Adams Routt was named in Richard Routt's will naming wife Frances. She had died by her will date of June 1716, Northumberland, Virginia Colony.

(1683) Frances Bale (bur 15.03.1723-4, dau/heir of William Bale of Humberston, Leicestershire, England. This marriage was also identified in source "Our Cup Runneth Over: Our Story for Our Children and Their Children." The authors linked Capt. Adams and Frances Bale of Welton, Oxfordshire, England to the Northumberland, Virginia, William Adams who died 20 September 1658 probate. This William Adams died 1658 Northumberland, Virginia, was listed in "Our Cup Runneth Over.." p. 294, as son of Capt. William Adams and Frances Bale of Welton. Totally incorrect for he died 1658 in Northumberland, Virginia, which was 25 years BEFORE Capt. William Adams married Frances Bale 1683 and lived in Oxfordshire, England! Researching the Northumberland, Virginia, early probate records William Adams had died by 20 JUNE 1677, when his widow Frances (unk) Adams, probated his estate. Her soon to be 2ND HUSBAND RICHARD ROUTT WAS APPOINTED ONE OF THE APPRAISERS OF ADAMS' ESTATE. She had married Richard ROUTT BY 1685 as their child Francis Routt was born June 1686 in Northumberland County. They were NOT the ENGLAND COUPLE OF Capt.
