Richard Touchstone

M, #3005, b. 21 May 1694, d. 15 January 1763
Exactly when Richard Touchstone came to the Valley cannot be ascertained, but he did appear on the 1733 list of Monocacie taxables, and on the 1734 list of those "in Monoccosea Hundred that had no tobacco burnt." On March 25. 1734 he leased 100 acres of "Carrollton." His own land, called "Anchor and Hope," was surveyed on March 6, 1739. It lay along Catoetin Creek itself, west and slightly north of present-day Jefferson, and it included what is now known as Lewis’ Mill.

Richard Touchstone and his ’wife Sarah Johnson presumably had sons Richard, Caleb, Daniel, Henry and Stephen Touchstone.

Richard Touchstone's wife, Sarah Johnson, was the daughter of Daniel and Frances Johnson and the sister of Hannah Johnson, wife of Thomas Cresap. After Daniel Johnson died his widow Frances married, in succession, Edward Harris, Hugh Grant and Miles Foy. The latter in 1736 was a 62-year old woolcomber who claimed he was from Baltimore County though he worked for Elisha Gatchell, Justice of the Peace in Chester County.

Caleb Touchstone

M, #3007, b. about 1726
Caleb Touchstone was the third of 12 children born to Richard Touchstone. His date of birth would be between 1726 and 1729. Caleb was originally from Maryland, but later moved to Anson County, NC. He was a land owner, possibly a gunsmith, and perhaps active in politics. I don't know how many offspring he had, but three of them, Anslem, Dempsey, and Green, moved to southern Mississippi in the early 1800s. Green apparently had at least three children; Jesse, James, and Dempsey. Jesse had three children, one of whom is Daniel Touchtone, my ggg-grandfather. Daniel's brother is Jesse Jackson Touchstone, who was born about 1823 and died about 1859 or 1860.

Taking this back farther, Richard Touchstone, Caleb's father, may be the son of the senior Richard Touchstone, born about 1650, who migrated to Maryland Colony from Scotland in about 1679.

To summarize the line, as I believe it to be:

Daniel L. Touchstone, born 1950
Leon G. Touchstone, born 1922
Leon G. Touchstone, born 1898
John P. Touchstone, born 1868
James. L. Touchstone, born 1839
Daniel Touchstone (2-15-1815) father was Jesse Rueben and his mother Salley Delany Horn. I believe Daniel's first wife was Elizabeth Collins born 1810 in GA and they produced one son James Larkin. He and his second wife Catherine Givens had seven children. His third wife, Mary Ann Greene is my great-great grandmother. They had two children, Isadora and Joseph Joe.

Green Touchstone, DOB ?
Caleb Touchtone, born about 1726-29
