MiscDNA Matches. 60 matches with 5 children of his

Scott Borgmier has 28 matches with 5 children of Daniel James
also 20 matches with the mother of Daniel James Routt being Catherine White but no hits with other children!

There is no evidence for the name Catherine White. But it does confirm Ann Nancy (4 matches) and Daniel James (32 matches) as siblings.
MiscParents: John Routt and Mary Withers. See DNA matches. Although some people have Catherine White, I see no evidence of that. Our Daniel James matches both parents with a person named John Withers Routt, who is SURELY a son of a Withers woman.

I had the father as James figuring Daniel James was the son James, but that did not work with DNA. Scott Borgmier's DNA matches with John Routt when not connected to my tree.

No Daniel or James is mentioned in John Routt's will. Although he was pretty old at that time. It is clear we have the right family.

See record from Fauquer Families in Nancy's findagrave about the relationship between Nancy and Daniel James.
_________________
The mother is either Catherine White (no evidence) or Mary Martha Withers, or ? Scott Borgmier has DNA matches with catherine White but I'm not sure what that means.

Familysearch has two wives, but no Daniel at all. The other wife is Sarah Covington with some children also listed under the other wife listed.

I can find nothing about Catherine White. The listed parents on some trees have no proof of such a child, except one that died very young.

Wikitree has his mother Catherine White

Randall Rountree

M, #386, b. circa 1725, d. October 1788
Randol Rountree (c1725 – 1788) His given name is uncertain, but he mainly styled himself as “Randol” or “Randal”. He may have been the eldest child, though the evidence is flimsy. He is the first of the children to appear as an adult in the records, and it seems likely that he occupied the land his father bought in 1749. On 3 November 1753 he was already a resident of Goochland County, when he bought 50 acres adjoining his father’s 1749 purchase.21 The tract included a dwelling house, and can accurately be located on Genito Creek just south of the Hanover County line.22 On 14 November 1757, his father gifted him another 350 acres from his purchase the day before.23 Surely Randall was already married by this time, but his marriage apparently predated the arrival of Rev. William Douglass and is not recorded. He received a “negro wench named Nan” in his father’s will. His daughter Rebecca, evidently of age, married Robert Wade in early 177124 and a few months later he gifted his son-in-law Robert Wade with 100 acres of the land he’d been given by his father.25 He may have had more than one wife for it was more than ten years later that he gave permission for the marriages of three minor children: his daughter Sarah’s marriage to John Dennis on a bond dated 9 January 1782, his daughter Mary’s marriage to John Gordon on a bond dated 17 August 1783, and his son John’s marriage to Lucy Gordon by bond dated 19 February 1786.

His wife was named Elizabeth when, on 24 May 1785 he sold 53 acres of his land to his son-in-law’s father John Gordon.26 In October 1786 he advertised in the Virginia Gazette that the “land whereon I live” consisting of 350 acres was for sale, describing it as 18 miles from Richmond with brown soil “very good for tobacco or wheat” with “1,000 fruit trees which will produce 3-4,000 gallons of cider.”27 He had already sold 100 of the 350 acres given to him by his father, so it isn’t clear exactly what this parcel was, but there is no deed of sale recorded in Goochland County.

His own will in Goochland County was dated 15 September 1788 and proved on 20 October 1788.28 It provided a lifetime estate to his wife (who was not named but presumably was Elizabeth) and distributed his estate among two sons John Rountree and Randal Richardson Rountree, three daughters Mary Gordon (wife of John Gordon), Elizabeth Curle (wife of John Curle), and Rebecca Wade (wife of Robert Wade) and two granddaughters Jenny Wade and Polly Dennis. His daughter Sarah Dennis, who had married John Dennis in 1782, was apparently deceased.

John Gordon

M, #399, b. 12 July 1716, d. 1803
Some of these records may not be for OUR John Gordon. In particular the birth records...

"John Gordon of Middlesex County" I believe is NOT OUR John Gordon. See page 43 of this...
https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/235406771.pdf

Did he in fact move to Kentucky? See notes on his will. Someone was in Kentucky...

These dates do not look right either. birth, marriage, quite old.

SonBenjamin Gordon+ (b. about 1785, d. 22 July 1852)
Birth12 July 1716In Middlesex County, Virginia, British America. If he is the John Gordon born in 1716, he would have been 42 when he married, about 100 miles from where he was born. From one side of Richmond to the other side of Richmond. And 83 when he died.

1735 is an undocumented date I've seen.

This was probably wrong. Christ Church Parish is quite a long ways from west of Richmond where his children were born. John Gordon could be a very popular name...

Note the reference to William & Mary College Quarterly for April 1900 which speaks of TWO John Gordons in that county alone! Neither of which may be ours. I cannot find this online, just this page... I can find the journal, but not that page...

It would seem likely that Judith Morriset married someone related to her mother Judith Gordon rather than someone from somewhere else. BUT I now believe Judith Gordon was not a Gordon but a Huguenot name related to Gandovin.

MiscJohn Gordon in Gordon DNA Project.14
MiscParents VERY questionable - see birth records. I don't think this is the Spotsylvania County Gordon family -- take a look some time...

March 2024 - I have unlinked him from William Gordon (1698-1720) and Bridget Norton (1700-1717).
A tree has his parents as William Gordon and Bridget Norton. I still have these people in my tree and they would appear to be likely candidates.

He was also pretty old at his first and only marriage if he is the John Gordon child of William Gordon Laird of Greishop and Susan Murray.
Joanne Benne suggests this John GORDON, SR. family may be related to the Gordons of Mercer Co. KY and / or the Madison Co. KY Gordons.

Or maybe he is Huguenot like Judith Girodan which was changed to Gordon. Judith Morriset's mother.
MiscDNA Matches. March 2024 72 matches across many children, but this does not prove HIS heritage. Just that trees have him there.

Scott Borgmier - 49 matches across 6 children.
Religious AffiliationJohn Gordon was affiliated with Anglican/Episcopal, IF the birth records are correct.
MiscOther wives? Some trees show him with other wives as well:
Margaret Tennant (1731-1782)
Mary Jane Hall (1740-1796)
This is a Spotsylania marriage to Tennant - beware
