Symon Miller

M, #5053, b. 1642, d. about 1684

Simon Miller was born in about 1642 (according to his will dated Feb 16, 1679 he says that he is thirty-seven years old "or thereabout.".) On November 5, 1673 he patented 817 acres of land in old Rappahanock County, granted to him for the transportation of 16 people to the colony of Virginia.

Symon Miller was a shipwright or shipbuilder in Virginia.
He apparently earned the title of Captain for leading troops in Bacon's Rebellion.

He married Margaret Prosser the widow of John Prosser of Golden Valley whose will was proved June 30, 1677.

Simon Miller died sometime before May 2, 1684, when his will was proved in old Rappahanock County. Old Rappahannock County was a Northern Neck county that existed from 1656 to 1692. In his will he names his wife, Margaret, his children Simon, William, John, Isabella, Margaret and Susannah, as well as Margaret's son from her first marriage, Anthony Prosser. He also mentions the "sons of John Prosser" implying that in addition to her child Margaret also had step-sons in her first marriage.

And to the sons of Mr Prosser every one of them are to have a heifer delivered to them one after anoth when they come ti eighteen years of age to be delived by executors after my decease. Item I give unto my wife Margaret Miller the plantation and houses I not live in during her natural life. Misc		DNA Matches -. 10/26/2024 DNA matches made me look again at this and found John Lewis (1633-1689) and Margaret Perkins (1620-1704) Scott has 5 matches with a brother John, John Zachary, Abraham The matches are to father John and to "Isabella Miller Warner" Judy has 2 matches: William (both) and Mary (no CA) In this tree a BROTHER named John Lewis is mentioned! https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/177941964/person/162576320679/facts ---------- Many people propose that Hugh's father is John Lewis of Chemokins and his mother Elizabeth Isabella Miller. There are lots of matches, but mostly without Common Ancestors. The trouble is we know Hugh was in Barbados when he was young, with new info, plus his father was probably John. See the will of someone giving a ring to Hugh and mentioning John. But that John can't be the John Lewis of Chemokins who did not seem to have any records in Barbados. I cannot explain the matches, some of which actually connect. They may be relatives, but could John Lewis of Chemoknis have a brother also named John who was in Barbados? So I give up. So I am rejecting John Lewis (1633-1689) and his wife Elizabeth Isabella(1640-1704) Oh, look! Hugh might have been born when she was 12! The other children seem to start being born in 1660.
Misc		Wife: Isabella Miller. DNA claims all have the same parents, but Isabell's records are such that she could not be our Hugh Lewi's mother.
