After many years of research on the Doughty family, I can state with some conviction that Bridget, the wife of Francis Doughty, was not a Stone; there is no known record of her baptism or birth, no record for her marriage to Francis, no record of her death. That she was his wife is proven by a couple of court records in 1640 that speak of Francis and Bridget Doughty being sued by his sister Elizabeth (Doughty) Cole. Those records follow:1

Some compilers try to assign Hugh as the son of Roger Daniell of Warwick County, VA, but there is no primary record evidence or reasoned argument to support this assignment. Hugh apparently came, on his own account, to Virginia in 1653 and is unrelated to other Virginia Daniel families.2
