Amelia Keller
F, #1933, b. 1887, d. 1973
"Aunt Amelia" (Keller), 75 years ago on my Klamm grandfather's Platte County farm. She was my grandmother's sister, and a very accomplished educator with the North KC school district. She was an early "womens-libber", having a very successful career, but never married nor had children. During her long career she served variously as principal, teacher, and dean of women for NKC. She wrote a history of the NKC school district. My dad rode to high school with her every day. The school's 1953 yearbook was dedicated in her honor. She passed 50 years ago this month, July 1973.

Robert Baber
M, #1934, b. 20 July 1651, d. 1720
Robert1 Baber, first of this family in Virginia, a Bristol factor, sailed from Bristol, Somerset, England, ca 1668, and landed m fork County, Virginia. He was a member of the Church of England, for the birth of his son Edward is recorded in Charles Parish Register, p. 45, as follows: "Edward Baber, son of Robert by Sarah, born October 12, 1686." Robert moved to Old Rappahannock County, where he appears as a witness in several transactions. (Embry's Index.) He evidently removed to King and Queen, for on Jan. 22, 1718, he received a grant of 300 acres in King William County, which was formed from King and Queen in 1702 . (P.Bk.10, p.409).
He also patented 500 acres on the upper end of Reedy Swamp in that same year. The date of his death is not known.
His children are said to be as follow:
1. Robert2 Baber, (of whom later).
2. Edward Baber, born Oct. 12, 1686.
3. Thomas Baber.
4. John Baber.

Marriage | about 1682 | In Virginia, British North America. This is a marriage record but a different birth date for Robert as we have from England.2,4,5,1,6 |
Death | before 1750 | In King William, King William, Virginia, British America. There is a burial record in 1750 for a Sarah Baber, but it is in Bristol, England. Robert Baber left from Bristol. Were they reporting deaths and briths to the motherland? I understand it was sometimes done. But it says burial in Bristol. Francis Rountree
M, #1936, b. 1649, d. about June 1734
Birth | 1649 | In England.1 |
Death | about June 1734 | In Chowan, North Carolina. British America.1,2 |
Misc | | Who are his parents? The usual suspects are John Rountree and Jane Hardy and even though both of these people apparently were born and died in London, the trees have Francis born in Ireland. I see no evidence for this and apparently others don't either. (see source)
This researcher has this possible father as Charles. But it seems to me re timing this would be more like a brother. In fact, that's what he concludes also.(see same source above)
See also Early Rountree Immigrants: (also copied as PDF, see source) https://genfiles.com/rountree/early-rountree-immigrants/#identifier_7_1273
"It was also at the end of the seventeenth century that the name starts to appear in records in the United States of America. In 1674 Thomas Rowntree was given 100 acres of land in what is now South Carolina(6). In 1681, in Virginia, the names of Tho. Roundtree and Wm. Roundtree are given as being transported to land owned by Chas. Turner (7). Later in the same century the names Chas. Rowntree, Robert Rountree, Francis Roundtree and Elizabeth Roundtree also appear, again in Virginia (7). No information is given about the country of origin for any of these settlers, and, as the first census in the USA was not taken until 1790, all these people would have been dead by then; therefore, as far as I know, there is no way of tracing their birth country, or who their ancestors were."
It is interesting though that a lot of trees have a John (middle name Moses sometimes) Rountree with children that are claimed to have died in Virginia. Unfortunately, little evidence of any of it, but might be fun to see what I can find about these other listed Rountree siblings dying in America. Did they in fact go to Ireland then to America as a family? See for example this tree, which could have been populated based on who was here in America? (Note, Elizabeth was said to have been born in Scotland! and died in Virginia).https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/74026960/person/282222756534/facts
Yes, there were Quakers in Ireland:"Some Quakers fled to Ireland for religious freedom. The first Quaker meeting took place in Ireland in 1654, and they held meetings in every Irish town up until the 20th century. William Penn, the famous founder of Pennsylvania, converted to Quakerism while dealing with his father's estates in Ireland. A huge number of Irish Quakers followed him to the new world, including the ancestors of President Richard M. Nixon."

and yet another theory... Some did go to Ireland. This sounds like a family story, and worth considering... Downloaded and attached as source... https://sallysfamilyplace.com/john-rowntree-jane-hardy/3,4,5,6 |
