Peter Presley, Sr.

M, #3689, b. 1636, d. before 1693
PETER PRESLEY, gent. was son of William Presley, gent. and wife Jane (Newman ?), who came to Virginia with wife and sons. William Presley, gent, had grant of 1150 acres of land in Northumberland County, Virginia, in 1649. He was a justice of the County Court of that county, 1650-1652; High Sheriff in February 1653-54; churchwarden in 1655; member of the Virginia House of Burgesses 1647-1648, 1651-1654. His will dated August 15, 1650, was proven January 2o, 1656-1657.

MiscChildren. We are led to believe that a daughter Elizabeth Presley married Peter Elder and Edward Morris.
It is interesting that the Wikitree has TWO children named Elizabeth Presley as daughters of Col Peter Presley Sr.
MiscWives. My tree created from various family histories, mostly Morris, say Peter Presley married 1) Mottrom and 2) Elizabeth Haynie.

Some other people believe a Presley married a Mottrom.

And that a daughter Elizabeth married Edward Morris. I believe this Presley might have been Peter's brother William, about little is known except his political life.

The other argument against the Peter Presley solution is his daughter Elizabeth seems to be well documented as marrying two other people.4

MiscMarried a Smith. Elizabeth Smith is mentioned in her father Richard Haynie's will so she as married to Smith on 31 Oct 1723. BUT Job Hammond died in 1717 so she could have already remarried Job Hammond b1646. It is suspicious that there is nothing known about this Smith or any children of her and Smith. BUT this does not work because she's too young to be the mohter of Job Hammond b1645's children if her birth date is correct. Also, we have a death date of 1717 for Job Hammond's wife (we do not know its accuracy). The Elizabeth Haynie we are looking for has to come from the generation before. Or be a King...3,2

MiscAnthony and Ormsby. Tidewater Virginia Families has an entry on Anthony, but it did not agree with what I saw, so I went to Early Colonial Settlers website and they have TWO Anthonys. One a child of Elizabeth Bridger who died at the age of 13 and another the child of Elinor. This would explain the "mystery" in Tidewater Virginia Families as to why Richard did not have Anthony in his will.

Some have the birth of Ormsby before Elizabeth died and there was also a mention of that name before Richard married Elinor.
