Misc | | Parents: Nicholas Morris. Anthony is named in his father's will4 |
Misc | | Children of Anthony Morris. Morris Genealogy 1605 to 1959 says Anthony had no children. But many people want to convince themselves that Edward Morris (b1665) if not more children were children of Anthony and Doris Samford. It is believed they are related, but not known how.
I have tried to research the children Jane, William, Anthony, John, Thomas and Martha and find absolutely nothing except their existence in many family trees. There is also no evidence for Anthony and Dorothy Samford being the parents of our Edward Morris. He is believed to be family, but not known how.3 |

- [S5027] Boddie, J. B. (1967). Historical Southern Families. United States: Genealogical Publishing Company. Searchable on ancestry.com, I believe this section to be incorrect:
"Anthony Morris, the above son, died in 1682 without children. His widow, Dorothy, had married Cuthbert Spann by Jan. 3, 1693, for the Court ordered that Anthony*s estate be divided between Dorothy, the relict, and Jane Haynie, the heir of said Morris. (25V 193)"
The Jane involved seems to be a child of Anthony from his first wife ?? King who was later put under guardianship of an uncle William King. NOT Jane (Morris) Haynie.

We keep reading that a Job Hammond married an Elizabeth Haynie. It does not seem to work with Job II. Could it work here? Who would her parents be?
Also note that her death date 1717, is the "same" as the death date of the Elizabeth Haynie who supposedly married Job II (I deleted that date). But that Elizabeth Haynie did not die in 1717, according to other sources... and according to her father's will had a last name of Smit.
Also, Elizabeth dau of John Haynie and the Morris, mother would have been in her 50s apparently.
Of course on the sites that people can pollute, she is a KING! Elizabeth Hammond formerly King aka Hamon Born about 1650 in Richmond, Henrico, Colony of Virginia Daughter of Joseph Henry King and Ruth (UNKNOWN) King Sister of Susannah (King) Jones and Susannah (King) Travis Wife of Job Hammond Sr. — married before 1677 [location unknown] Descendants descendants Mother of Job Hammond II and John Hammond Died 17 Jun 1717 at about age 67 in Farnham Parish, Richmond, Colony of Virginia4,8 |

Nicholas Morris, whose daughter, Jane, married John Haynie, patented 152 acres in Northumberland County, Nov. 1652, "upon a creek dividing this from the land of said Morris11 which indicates that he had previously purchased land in that county. (C.P. 266) His next patent was for 512 acres June 1, 1654, upon Great Wicomico River for the transportation of 11 persons. (Id. 314) It is very probable that Nicholas Morris came to the county from Maryland. He was born in 1605 and his wife, Martha, in 1609. (Depositions) He was a Justice of the County Court from 1652 until his death in 1663. Nicholas Morris1 will was dated Nov. 21, 1660, and proven Jan. 20, 1664. He gave his son, Anthony, 550 acres of land and his wife, Martha, 506 acres. He also mentioned his daughter, Jane Haynie, and her children, Martha, Elizabeth and RICHARD HAYNIE. Martha, widow of Nicholas Morris, married Thomas Lane, a large landowner of Northumberland.

Captain John Haynie
M, #1675, b. about 1624, d. 1697
Captain John Haynie was elected to the Virginia Houses of Burgesses to represent Northumberland County, VA, in 1657. Who was this man?
By 1650, John Haynie was living in Northumberland County, VA, and states in a deposition recorded in 20 August 1655 that he is 31 years of age or thereabouts; it is this court record that establishes his birth year as 1624. His will was recorded at a court held 22 July 1697, but his actual will was destroyed by a fire in 1710. John Haynie transported 34 people from England into the VA Colony; he was a surveyor, a Justice, a planter, a King’s Attorney for Northumberland County, a Captain in the Susquehanna War, a vestryman in Wicomico Parish and later a member of St. Stephens Parish in present-day Heathsville, VA.
About 1650, Haynie married Jane Morris, daughter of Nicholas and Martha Morris who were in the VA Colony by 1641. John and Jane Haynie had six children: Richard [married (1) Elizabeth Bridgar (2) Elinor]; Anthony [married Sarah Harris]; John Haynie [married (1) Mary Sadler (2) Jane]; Martha [spouse unknown]; Elizabeth [married Peter Presley]; and Anne [married Thomas Harding]. Jane and John Haynie also reared Jane Morris, the only child of Jane Morris Haynie’s brother Anthony; and Thomas Harding, Jr., orphan of Anne Haynie Harding and Thomas Harding.
According to VA Land Patents recorded in Cavaliers and Pioneers, John Haynie owned about 4750 acres in Northumberland County and was a wealthy planter elected to represent Northumberland in the VA House of Burgesses in 1657. He was also appointed the clerk of the market for Wicomico and set up an ordinary near the courthouse in 1681.
