John Archibald Anderson

M, #3299, b. 1750, d. 1833
John Archibald Anderson is said to have been a Corporal, 1775, Pennsylvania. No evidence for it.

This is an experiment to see if it works out as the father of Alexander. But maybe it could be the mysterious brother Samuel... There are some good "half" DNA matches with children of this John Archibald.

Birth1750In Pennsylvania, British America.
Marriage
Marriage1772Some have the mother of his children Catherine Jane Shirley Parker but that marriage would have been long after his children were born.1
Death1833At age ~83 in Garrard County, Kentucky, United States. This death record and the probate record is also assigned to his son John G. Anderson... or maybe somebody altogether different. Some people have our John Archibald as dying in 1831.
This death record has the name Matilda Anderson apparently as the inheritee and also the name Turner Johnson.2
Burial1833At John Anderson Cemetery in Garrard County, Kentucky, United States. Dubious2
MiscMatilda Anderson NOT a daughter of John Archibald Anderson. Matilda Anderson with the birth date of about 1807 and death date of 20 Aug 1856 in Garrard, Kentucky is Matilda Bennett, father John Bennett.
"Matilda Anderson in the Kentucky, U.S., Death Records, 1852." 1965 https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/303964:1222?indiv=try&h&_phsrc=VFH413&pid=192523312367&db. Accessed 29 Mar. 2024.

There is also an 1850 census in Garrard, Kentucky where she is the spouse of a Jno Anderson age 48 with children Sophia, Nancy E., Mary J., Louisa, Lavinia.

This probably also means that the probate record is neither of "our" John Andersons. Unless of course she is a wife of either of them.
MiscTwo John Andersons in Harrison County? One is a will of someone who relatives are different from our John Anderson's children.3
MiscChildren. Kezia might be a daughter. She married James Hopwood

There are trees with lots of children, but not our Alexander. Has the others in my list. There is also a will from the right county.

MiscDNA Matches - good. 8/15/2024 Scott's DNA attached to Samuel Anderson
8 matches on siblings of Alexander, all called half.
John G. 2 matches John Archibald only
Francis - 4 matches John Archibald only
Isabella - 1 John Archibald only
Mary - 1 John Archibald only

No direct matches with Susannah Thomas. Maybe she died and he remarried? I removed susannah Thomas from ancestry and I got "Martha Callis Winston" which is bogus as far as I can tell. So no one else has an idea for this one kid...

______________
6/2/2024 Judy's DNA attached to Samuel Anderson
4 matches to siblings, all half to John Archibald
John G, Francis, Isabella

Scott's DNA - Samuel Anderson
9 DNA matches
John G 2 matches to John Archibald only
Francis 4 matches to John Archibald only
Isabella 2 matches to John Archibald only
Mary Cartmill 1 to J.A. AND Susannah Thomas
______________
3 fairly high hits on three other children of John Archibald. They are half, but that makes sense since the children I have listed have a gap between these three and Alexander of 15 years! But at least one more child is also later according to what I find: Matilda, but we have no evidence for Matilda.
John G, Francis, and Isabella.

John G is John A and Susannah Thomas
Francis is only John A
Isabella is only John A

Re Susannah Thomas, John G only one match to both, 22 under my Alexander

Scott has 9 DNA matches across 5 children.
MiscMilitary records and the child Kezia. I am removing the child Kezia until some evidence of the existence appears.1,4
MiscPossible second wife: Catherine Parker. DNA says John G, Francis, Isabella are not the children of Susannah Thomas but our Alexander and Mary Polly are.
Catherine Jane Shirley Parker 1757-1838 might be the mother of the others. BUT we have a marriage date of Susannah of which must be wrong...
1772 does not work at all. Nor can I find more information.
There is a marriage record of a Catherine Parker and John Anderson 19 July 1822. That is possible and may be why it says Susannah Thomas died before 1822, but does not help with the children born BEFORE Mary and Alexander who do not match DNA with Susannah Thomas. Or does it really mean that? Can it be a fault of the trees? Fortunately we are not involved in this since our Alexander matches Susannah Thomas.

And a third wife. a Rebecca Maxwell married a John Anderson 10 Jan 1775 in Botetort. But was our guy ever there? Looks like he went straight from Pennsylvania to Kentucky.5
Misc1775Possibly Corporal John Anderson in Pennsylvania, British America. Corporal John Anderson was in Pennsylvania in 1775. Is this him?6
Property1796POSSIBLE land sale in 1796 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, British America.7
Residence1800In Harrison, Kentucky, United States. The entire list shows how many Andersons there were in Kentucky in 1800 and how many John Andersons (23) and how many in Harrison County alone! (2 , and his son John was still a baby).8,9
Residence6 August 1810In Cynthiana, Harrison, Kentucky, United States. NOTE! There is one male person under 10. That would be born after 1800. And our Alexander was born in 1805. Most trees have no such male person.10
Misc1830Owned one adult slave in 1830.11
Residence1830In Eastern Division, Harrison, Kentucky, United States.11
Will3 August 1832In Harrison County, Kentucky, United States. What is this?3
Probate7 October 1833In Madison, Kentucky, United States. This is also assigned to his son John G Anderson (1776-~1833). But see the note about Matilda Anderson. This record probably does not belong to either of "our" John Andersons.12

Also, I think what I have for death records for John b1750 are actually for his son John G.

Alexander Anderson

M, #3300, b. 1730
Beware, that this Alexander Anderson is confused with a Quaker Alexander Anderson of totally different ancestry. His name is said to be Andriessen and if that is true, he may be Dutch, not Scotch-Irish. Both are in familysearch and there is a suggestion to merge them, which I wrote a note opposing. See note about child named Samuel.

MiscAnderson child named Samuel. The child named Samuel is no doubt the child of the Quaker family Alexander Anderson (Andriessen) and Susannah Evans (1737-1830). It appears from Alexander's will that their only child was Samuel V.
MiscParents: George Anderson and Margaret Hunter. DNA with both Scott and I getting zero BUT if they had only one or two children, we could not have many hits!1
MiscPossible spouse Susannah Evans. Susannah Evans is Quaker

No hits on Alexander himself. Ditto for Scott's DNA

BUT they did not have a lot of children!

Misc1768Possible marriage in South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland. An Alexander Anderson from South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland married a Christian Chalmers 2 July 1768. This is too late for our John Archibald. Possibly we are on the wrong track...

Misc9 May 1775Possible marriage to Susannah Myers in Douglassville, Amity Township, Berks, Pennsylvania, British America. Possible marriage with a Susannah Myers b ca 1750, but this is too late to be the parent of John Archibald. However this was an Episcopal marriage and most likely our Scotch Irish would be Presbyterian.
