Robert Gragg

M, #4205, b. about 1732, d. 5 May 1796
Robert Gragg was born about 1732 in Ireland a son of John Gragg and Nancy Wood. Robert's family immigrated to America, when he was a child. The family lived first in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and then in Augusta County, Virginia, which was formed from Orange County in 1738.

In 1754, in Augusta county, Virginia, Robert married Lydia Alice Harrison. Robert Gregg lived in Augusta County, Virginia, approximately 38 years and all of his known children were born there.

"Robert served in the Virginia Militia, in 1758 and served under Captain Sawyers, and Colonel Christie in the 1774 expedition in Tennessee, which led them to the Tellico Valley towns of the Cherokee. Augusta County court records show, 22 October 1788, Robert Gragg about to move to the frontier of North Carolina. The records also reveal that Robert sold his 513 acres of land to Frederick Michel of Rockingham County, Virginia. Robert Gragg, Sr., and several members of his family, moved to Greene County, Southwest Territory about five years after the county was organized as a part of North Carolina, and about eight years before the area became a part of the State of Tennessee."

Robert Gragg wrote his Will on May 3, 1796, and in it, he names his children John, William, Abigail, Betsey, Robert, Samuel, Thomas, Henry, and sons-in-law Benjamin Crow, George Malcolm and Joseph McMurtrey.

MiscWife or wives. it is believed there might have been more than one wife since he mentions "my now wife". The other wife is thought by some to be a Hampton and his executors are "said wife and Jonathan HAMPTON".

On the other hand, in the OCCGS file we have this which says that the current wife had no children. So since our Richard was apparently born first, he would be a child of Elizabeth Seaman even if Elizabeth Hampton was his wife at his death.

It has been suggested that Elizabeth was_the daughter of Solomon Seaman, who died in 1703, since she was of the correct age, and the name Solomon appears in trie family.
It is also possible that Jonathan Hampton, executor of Thomas’ will was related.
Via: Steve Rosen, (s-roseniti.com), he gives us: Elizabeth Hampton was born on ll*0ct-1676 in Scotland. She was the co-executor with Jonathan Hampton for the will of Thomas COMBS. Elizabeth J Thomas had no known children which implies that she was his second marriage. Thomas mentions his children in his will...

MiscWho is Mary Paxton? Mary Paxton married a Matthew Robertson 7 May 1759 in Cockburnspath, Berwick, Scotland. He was living here and as far as we know his wife was alive at that time. But some people say that Matthew's wife Martha was also a Paxton. Did he go back to Scotland to marry her sister? Does not matter for DNA because the children were already born by 1759.

Problem WikiTree says Edward Bryan moved to North Carolina in 1700. How did she marry someone in Virginia who died in Virginia?

Reconsider Thrulines favorite William Bryant (1674-1720) and Alice Macland (1672-1725). Judy does have on half match with John Franklin Bryan (1691-1741). The good news is he is in Albemarle County, VA. And someone put a Lucy in the tree... but no spouse... so I wonder why they decided on a Lucy...
A tree has William Bryant (1655-1742) as spouse of Lady macland
He moved to North Carolina too... They are calling the "lady" Needham not Macland...

Scott has a match also with a Catherine under Alice only. Strange! when last names are Bryant.
A will does exist, but apparently names few (hard to read).
