Misc | | Parents - not certain. This connection to Colonel Nicholas Spencer seems weak... Especially note whether he was born in Virginia or England and when. Much less when he was born. I appear to be descended from Magruder (DNA), but the Spencer connection is very weak. One DNA match with Ninian Magruder.
William Spencer son of Nicholas Spencer and Elizabeth Mottrom is said to have died in England. "after 1699".
This tells a completely different story about William the son of Nicholas. https://ancestors.familysearch.org/en/MZQ3-4Z6/elizabeth-magruder-1707-1758
But WikiTree has them linked: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Spencer-548
Early Colonial Settlers has the son of Nicholas Spencer and Frances Mottrom named William born in Northumberland Co but dying in London. Mottrom mentions his beloved brother William " of Cople in the Co. of Bedford"
But this will should be the death knell for Nicholas to be the father of OUR William "WILLIAM SPENCER of Cople, Beds, Esq., 18 January 1683, proved 2 June 1686. I do confirm unto my dear mother, the Lady Mary Armiger, late wife of my father Nicholas Spencer, Esq. all such joynture which was settled upon her for her life by my said father. Brothers in law Oliver Luke of Cople Woodend and John Luke of Cople Woodend, In the parish of Cople. Wife Elizabeth Spencer [LUKE?] shall receive two hundred pounds yearly out of my messuages, lands &c. for and during her life. After her death the said messuages to descend to my eldest son by her and his lawfully begotten heirs male, remainder to next son &c. Failing such I give the reversion and remainder unto my loving brother Nicholas Spencer, Esq. Misc | | DNA Matches - 2. 10/18/2024 DNA on Sarah Ellen Spencer Judy has a DNA match with a James Spencer said to be brother of John son of William, but I think this is our own ancestor, James son of our John. We have a huge number of matches with James b1735. LATER! Nope, some call Thomas "Thomas James" or maybe even James. Judy's match is a different match.
Scott's match is on Thomas James b1721 and only William (father) |
Misc | | Conflation? It may be hard to make sense of him if he is being confused between William Nicholas Spencer son of Colonel Nicholas Spencer and another William Spencer. |

Misc | | Pareants problems. Who is the mother of Mary Magruder? It could be Sarah Beall and not Sarah Mills, if her father is a Magruder.
Who is the mother of John Spencer? Even if Mary is a Magruder, would she be the mother of John? NB Magruder has royal ancestry.
There is a Mary daughter of Samuel for sure, but in her mother's will written 16 Jan. 1731
Land, called HEAD AKE, lying in the Eastern Branch of Potowmack, containing 300 acres, to be equally divided bewteen daughter, Eleanor Wade, wife of Nehemiah Wade and Sarah Claggett, daughter of George Clagett and my daughter Mary Claggett, decd.
familysearch has these children: Sarah Clagett 1713–1731 Jane Claggett 1713–Deceased Susan Mary Clagett 1715–Deceased
If William died about 1710 and Thomas Spencer was born earlier, Clagett could have been her last husband, which is all that makes sense.
BUT familysearch has a birth date for Thomas Dec 5, 1721 |

Jean ("Jane") Robertson
F, #5417, b. 1678
It is not known if the Jean that is the ancestor of Patrick Henry is the daughter of William Robertson or his son James Robertson.
Evidence that Jean Robertson, ancestor of Patrick Henry, is the son James not the father William...
1) My DNA match says our guy James son of James is her sibling and that she is a daughter of both parents. Both is important. That means it includes DNA that the wife of his father would not have.
2) Her name is Jean. William's wife's name is believed to be Eleanor. James' wife's name is Jenet/Jean.
3) Weaker... William would have been 60 years old when she was born. His wife, if we are right as to who she is, and if the dates are reasonable... would have been 46. And 10 years after the last other known child. Not impossible.

Colonel Samuel Magruder
M, #5425, b. about 1654, d. 16 April 1711
Samuel Magruder was a planter and merchant in colonial Maryland. He was literate and a Protestant. Samuel Magruder's mother reportedly was Sarah, Samuel Magruder was a significant landowner in the portion of Calvert County which became Prince George's County when the latter was created. While he bought, sold and owned numerous land patents, Good Luck was the "dwelling plantation." He served in a number of official civil capacities beginning in 1676. In 1696 and 1698 he served Prince George's County as a militia captain. Samuel died between the writing of his will on 23 November 1710, and the probate of it on 16 April 1711.
