Robert McAfee
M, #1828, b. 10 July 1745, d. 10 May 1795
McAFEE, ROBERT. Robert McAfee, pioneer, was born near Port Deposit, Pennsylvania, on July 10, 1745. He was the sixth child of James. Sr., and Jane McAfee, of Scottish descent, who had emigrated to the United States from Ireland. The family settled in Augusta County. Virginia, in 1748. On May 10, 1773, McAfee left Virginia on his first trip to explore what is now Kentucky, accompanied by his brothers, James, Jr., and George; his brother-in-law James McCoun, Jr.; and Samuel Adams. They spent almost four months along the stream they called Crooked Creek—the present-day Salt River in Mercer County. Kentucky—and along the Kentucky River in Franklin County where Frankfort now stands. In 1775 Indian threats cut short their second exploratory trip. The McAfee brothers and McCoun moved their families to Kentucky in 1779. They built McAfee Station at James McAfee's Spring during October 1779, near what is now Talmage in Mercer County. Robert McAfee and his family built a cabin at nearby Wilson's Station. At both the McAfee and Wilson stations, the McAfee and McCoun families suffered occasional casualties from Indian attacks, which were common until Gen. Anthony Wayne’s victory over the Indians at Fallen Timbers on August 20. 1794.
McAfee married Anne McCoun. a distant cousin, on December 10, 1766; they had six surviving children: Margaret, Sallie, Samuel. Mary. Robert Breckinridge, and Annie. McAfee, sometimes called “First Commodore of Western Rivers,” operated the first flatboats from the Salt River to the Ohio River and from there to New Orleans via the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. McAfee was murdered in New Orleans during one of these expeditions in 1795. He died on May 10 and was buried in New Orleans.
Robert and Ann were the parents of General Robert Breckinridge McAfee, the historian.

Katherine Jane Rutherford
F, #1832, b. 5 October 1682, d. 1738
Katherine Rutherford born about 1682, daughter of Rev. John Rutherford and Isabella Alleine. Her father, John lived to the age of 84 and was a Presbyterian minister. His brothers were Captains in the Army of Protestant King Wm. III of Orange in the Battle of Boyne (1690) against the Catholic King James II.
Her mother, Isabella Alleine was the daughter of Joseph Alleine a Puritan Nonconformist pastor and author. Joseph was born at Devizes, Suffolk, England early in 1634, the fourth of a large family. His father, the "worthy Mr Tobie Alleine of Devizes", was a descendant of Alan, Lord of Buckenhall. Alan's descendants had settled in the neighborhood of Calne and Devizes as early as 1430. Almost coincident with his ordination as associate pastor came his marriage with Theodosia Alleine, daughter of Richard Alleine.

Reverend John Rutherford
M, #1843, b. about 15 July 1653, d. between 1737 and 1740
Rev. John Rutherford was born on 15 Jul 1653 in Teviotdale, Scotland to parents James Rutherford and Margaret Gladstone. He married Isabella Alliene about 1670 in Northumberland, England. Children: Thomas, John Jr., James, Samuel (twin), Allen (twin), Elizabeth, Esther, Katherine. He died about 1740 in County Down, Ireland.
John served as a Captain with William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne in July 1690. King William subsequently granted him lands in County Down, Ireland.
John was a Presbyterian minister in Scotland and Ireland.
The Battle of the Boyne was fought between two rival claimants of the English, Scottish and Irish thrones - the Catholic King James (James II of Scotland & IV of Ireland), and the Protestant King William (William III of England & William II of Ireland and Scotland). King William is more widely known as William of Orange. James was the father-in-law and uncle of William.
