David McGee
M, #1805, b. circa 1768, d. November 1836
Gilead Roup was a neighbor of Walter Burris and David Burris back in Clark county, Kentucky. Others were David McGee, Samuel McMahan, Augustus Davis. In July 1810 Walter Burris, David Burris, Mary Box (mother of Muke Box listed above as Mike Box), and Prudence and John Snethen are at the Loutre Island settlement also with the Cole family. I suspect they may have migrated from Kentucky to Missouri with the Thorp family Aug-Sep 1809. All these people show up a year or so later in Boonville. Samuel McMahan was killed (beheaded) in Dec 1814 by Indians outside Boonville and it was his brother-in-law David McGee that recovered the body.

Robert McGee, administrator of the Estate of David McGee, dec'd, this day filed his petition praying the court to assign and admeasure to the widow of said deceased her dower in the Lands and real Estate of the same deceased and due proof of the notice of said application having been made as the Law directs, it is therefore ordered that Philip Barger, Lot Howard and Archibald Moritz, Gentlemen, be and there are hereby appointed commissioners (being first duly sworn) for the purpose of assigning and admeasuring dower to the widow of the same David McGee, Deceased, her dower in the Lands and real Estate of the said deceased .. and that they report their proceedings to the next term of this Court.1 |

Robert McGee
M, #1817, b. 1670
Robert McGee was born circa 1675 in Donagheady Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland, he is the son of James Maghee and Marianna Leighton. Robert married Margaret Killgore circa 1695 probably in Donagheady Parish, Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland as was the family tradition. Unfortunately the records for Donagheady Parish are not complete and there are many missing baptism and marriage records.
The Killgore clan like the McGees was another prominent family in Ireland taking its roots from Scotland. The name Kilgore is of Gaelic origin, from the ancient name of a parish in Fife Shire Scotland. The surname is found all over Fife and is also common in Aberdeenshire
Robert and and Margaret had least two known children, both sons:
1. Robert McGee who married a woman (name unknown) in Donagheady Parish, the couple would later immigrate from Ireland to America with their five sons known as "The Five McGee Brothers from Ireland"
2. George McGee whose birth date is lost but was baptized on 20 February 1699.
It is not known when Robert or his wife Margaret died.
From findagrave entry.

William McGee
M, #1822, b. about 1737, d. 1822
William McGee came from Ireland in about 1756 with his parents Robert McGee Sr. and (mother) McGee and his four brothers, David, Robert, James and John. Also, one sister named Jane McGee stayed in Ireland, she was married to Charles Young.
William McGee never married and died without issue.
William McGee was the owner of another McGee's Station in Bourbon County or Cove Spring, located near Georgetown Road, McGee's Fork and McClures’s Run - a branch of Cooper’s Run, built about 1776.
Those at this McGee Station included: Alijah Woods (1776); Roger Clements (1781); Ralph Rayborn (1781); Joseph Proctor (1782); Dawson Wade and his son James from Greenbrier Co VA (1784); John McGuire (1779); Nicholas Proctor (brother of Joseph, to KY in 1778, also at Boonesborough); Strouds and McGee’s, along with a Mrs. Wilson (later at Woodford Co). These names taken from various depositions.
William McGee died without issue in Clark County in 1822. When William died he was described as very old, blind, senile, and mean.
Because of a very public lawsuit in 1824 over William McGee's estate it was discovered that the the five McGee brothers left a sister, Jane, in Ireland. It was one of her sons, James Young that was a participant in that suit and in the court records he stated that his mother Jane Young was William's sister.
There was a law suit filed in Bourbon Co.,KY concerning the estate of William McGee who died childless and Intestate in Clark County Kentucky.
This information can be found in the book: "James McCoun & Margaret Walker & Their Descendants." written by Maurie McCoun Klimcheck.

James McCoun, IV
M, #1824, b. 1717, d. 4 October 1800
James Maccoun (III), born 17 17, in Antrim, Ireland, where his father had settled while a soldier under King William and Mary. He emigrated to Virginia in 1742. Landed at Norfolk, and settled on the Catawba in Botetourt County, Virginia. Here he married Margaret Walker, in April, 1744. She was a woman of great energy and fine judgment, and possessed a strong, beautiful voice, and, while not permitted to "pitch the tunes," she led the singing at the church at "the Peaks of Otter" in Virginia, of which Reverend David Rice was the pastor. Mr. Rice came to Kentucky in 1783. June 4, 1784, he preached the funeral sermon of Margaret (Walker) Maccoun, which was the first sermon ever preached on the banks of Salt River. James Maccoun, senior, was the first elder of the First Presbyterian Church (New Providence) founded by Mr. Rice in Kentucky. ( See Davidson's Presbyterianism in Kentucky.) James Maccoun was a soldier of the Revolution and the senior member of the McAfee Company, which left Botetourt County, Virginia, May 10, 1773, and reached Salt River, Mercer County, Kentucky, July 21, 1773. His will was probated at Harrodsburg, Kentucky, in October, 1800.
-- The Clay Family, p228
The McCoun family originated in Scotland. James MacCoun, Sr. (1716- ) was born in northern Ireland. He descended from a Scottish family which had immigrated to northern Ireland with the the general Scottish migration. James immigrated to America in the mid-seventeen hundreds and married Margaret Walker (1717-1784) in 1744. They were the parents of ten children. In 1779 James and his family moved to Kentucky where they settled on the Salt River. Their numerous descendants live in Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, California and elsewhere.

Religious Affiliation | | James McCoun, IV, was affiliated with Presbyterian. |
Misc | | James McCoun from McAfee book...James McCoun was of Danish extraction. The whole family feature the clear blue eyes and fair or auburn hair both men and women. He emigrated to Ireland, settled in Antrim County, adjoining Armah when quite young. He did not marry until he was pretty much of a Bachelor - had a son, James, my grandfather, who was born in the year 1717. His father kept a small store and occasionally acted as an itinerant pedlar.
...James McCoun came to Virginia from Ireland when a young man and landed at Norfolk in company with another young man by name of William Adams in 1742. They engaged for some time working at the loom and farming until he procured money enough to buy himself a small package of goods. Then he went to peddling in the back and frontier counties which at that time did not extend farther than lower counties on the Roanoke, but as the settlements ext ended, James McCown and William Adams married & some years afterward settled on the Catawba in Bedford Co. These marriage took place in 1744 about two years after they arrived in Virginia, having met with Margaret and Mary Walker who came to North America about the same time with their brother Samuel Walker and landed at Charleston, So. Carolina, with an uncle by the name of Thomas Clark, who had married their mother's sister. Their family moved t o Virginia and settled on Roanoke, where James McCown married Margaret, the eldest sister who was said to be a remarkably handsome neat Irish girl ... (the writer here states that he has in his possession a little rocking chair which had been -) hers previous to her death in March 1784. James McCown often went to Philadelphia to get his goods. Thomas Clark returned to Ireland and again came back to Charleston where he took sick and died before he reached his family. Samuel Walker hearing of his death went to see after his affairs, and was never heard of afterward. It was supposed he was murdered or taken sick and died at or near Charleston.
... James McCoun, was married April 1744 and had the following children: James, born March 11th 1745, who married Nancy Tilford; Ann, (my mother, born August 1st, 1746, married Robert McAfee Dec. 10th, 1766); Samuel, born October 20th, 1748, died young and unmarried; Mary, born August 13th, 1750, married John Magee moved to Monroe County Missouri and died in 1837. Susan born April 7th, 1752, married James McCoun (no relation, from South Carolina); John, born March 28th, 1754, married Elizabeth Tilford (sister to James' wife); Jane, born May 1st, 1756, married James Woods and afterward Samuel Adams; Margaret, born April 15th, 1758, married to ___ Kerr (4); Elizabeth, born February 7th, 1761, married James Ledgerwood; Joseph, born February 19th, 1763, taken prisoner by the Indians 1780 and burnt to a stake on head of Mad River in Ohio.
... James McCoun, was a person of the ordinary size, about five feet nine or ten inches, heavy made and became fleshy before his death in 1800; grey eyes, heavy eyebrows and finely rounded forehead. Was a man of extraordinary strong mind with a great f und of cheerfulness and good humor, in which the Irish character predominated. He was an excellent farmer and great economist, fond of his friends and much attached to his sons especially the eldest. He could never get clear of his idea of primogeniture and was a Presbyterian of the Seceder denomination.
...[Margaret Walker] was a remarkable woman neat and spare made of the ordinary height, lively temperament, and beloved by all her children and friends.

I have just returned from a two week trip to Northern Ireland that included visits to Derry, where I saw the statue and plaque in honor of George Walker and realized for the first time what a celebrity he was in his day. Also I visited the Battle of the Boyne museum, as both George Walker and James McCoun II died in 1690, and saw/touched ! the gravestones of James McCoun I (1601-1706) and his wife Margaret Hamilton (d. 1706). At the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), I accessed the Magheralin Church records that included reference to their burials, days apart, in March 1706 and church vestry records recording active participation in church business by a James McCoun, likely James III who was the grandson of James I.
I went to your WikiTree seeking validation that I have correctly identified Margaret Walker as the great granddaughter of George Walker (1635-1690). I see that my own tree is a major source for the WikiTree, which is fine, but I am wondering if you have more than my tree.
Since my trip, focusing more on this lineage than ever before, some of the geography involving generations between George and Margaret seem suspect. There is uncertainty whether George was born in Yorkshire, England or in County Tyrone, Ireland. My tree and Wikitree show his son John Alexander and son's son John both born in Wigtown, Wigtownshire, Scotland. I am aware of no evidence that George and his wife Isabella lived in Scotland, and biographical accounts refer to his family has having been English before residing in Ireland.
So, I am doubting the accuracy of what is in my tree (and yours on Wikitree) and am hopeful you have found evidence other than my and other people's trees on Ancestry.com
Thank you, Linda Horton
