This was difficult to read. I have a Robert Chapman, Sr., dying in 1749 not 1740 as it appears. The 0 could be a 9.

Margit I have as Margaret, wife of Robert Chapman, Jr. I have no last name.

Nathan is who I call William Nathan and his wife is Rebecca Griffith in my tree.

I think the generatoins are mixed up and with repeats of names could cause confusion. But could confirm what we think we know from elsewhere...

MiscAdditional children? It is stated in the Draper Manuscripts by Moses Boone (son of Squire Boone and Jane Van Cleave Boone), that his Grandparents (Aaron Van Cleave and Rachel Schenck Van Cleave) had 7 sons when they migrated from New Jersey to North Carolina. No records have been found for the two missing sons. There is a gap between the date of marriage (1734) for Aaron and Rachel and the birth of their eldest surviving son John (1739) for two additional sons. According to the Dutch naming system, which Aaron and Rachel followed, the names for these two sons would be, Isa (born 1735, died circa 1753) and Cornelius (born 1737, died circa 1753).

This is confused by most people having Jane Van Cleave all wrong! There is no doubt at this point of the Van Cleave relationship, especially with Scott's small tree, so the issue is generation. Dubious ancestor would be of course his wife's line, the Lydia Combs line. This is the end of where we can go with Ancestry, so we can't prove this connection this way.

Residence1775In Kentucky, British America. "Sometime during the first half of the Revolutionary War [1776-1779] the five Van Cleave brothers, Aaron, Benjamin, John, Billy, Ralph and their sister Jane emigrated to the territory of Kentucky. This was a vast wilderness inhabited by ... Indians and wild beasts, the prowling panther, the wild cat and the catamount, huge buffalo, deer and elk, as well as bear. It was the perfect paradise for the hunter and those fond of adventure. ... Their mode [of] travel is not given but it is evident that they traveled on horseback, carrying their bedding on pack horses, probably some road [sic] and some walked part of the time. It was a long journey, crossing the mountains into the territory of Kentucky. They camped at night along the trail. There is but one incident given during the entire trip. One morning as the women were getting breakfast by the campfire, a deer dashed up and stood near the fire, so, Aaron, son of Benjamin snatched up his brother's (Sammy) 'little shot gun' and taking a rest between the forks of a small tree, shot the deer. The distance was short and it fell dead. This is the only incident remembered of the entire journey."13,4

6/2024 I don't understand this. Who is Jesse?
Neither date of marriage explains the date & year of birth recorded for Jesse, this couples eldest son, given by several sources.Personally, I tend to believe that Jesse was probably b 3/27/1816, but that would leave me to argue that he was only 16 1/2 years old at the time of his 1st marriage, and that Elizabeth Combs/Coombs & Nancy Griffin were probably twins born 18/19 Nov 1816/17.As there is no conclusive evidence of either being the case, I will have to leave it to others to find an explantion for Jesse's year of birth in relationship to his parent's marriage.
