Peter Ware

M, #5126, b. 1613, d. before 10 September 1659
Peter was born ca 1613 to Peter and Catherine Eaton Peter married Mary Hickes. In 1647 Peter was an attorney for Robert Lewis in York Co., VA. In 1675, Peter Ware IV sells land in Queen’s Creek, Hampton Parish, York Co., VA to Nathaniel Bacon in which he identified the land as having belonged to his father, "Peter Ware". Peter Ware passed away in 1659 but before 10 SEP 1659 in York County Virginia when Mary Hickes was identified in a 1659 Orphan’s Court document as the widow of Peter Ware, from this document it appears Mary Hickes maintained her maiden name, which was an old Welsh custom, and was likely of Welsh descent.

George Chandler

M, #5128, b. 8 April 1633, d. 13 December 1687
George Chandler, the ancestor of the family in this county, left his home at Great Hodge, Wiltshire, England, in 1687, with his wife Jane and seven children... The father died at sea on the 13th of December in that year, but before the close of the following year his widow found a second husband, William Hawkes, of Chichester, (now) Delaware Co. John chandler, a brother of the elder George, came perhaps at the same time, but does not appear to have had a family. His home in England was at Oare, in the parish of Wilcott. The early records of that parish show that the Chandlers were an old family there.

Colonel James Bray

M, #5150, b. 7 July 1609, d. 24 October 1690
Bray, James, of James City county, was living in Virginia as early as 1666, and, on April 15, 1670, was sworn a member of the council.[2] He retained his seat until 1676, when during Bacon's rebellion, he seems to have been an active supporter of Gov. Berkeley. He signed the proclamation of Aug. 11, 1676, calling an assembly to meet in the following September. The commissioners sent to suppress the rebellion reported, on Dec. 6, 1677, that Mr. James Bray was a great loser in his estate by that uprising, but they were evidently not favorably disposed towards him, for the English board of trade and Plantations, on Dec. 6, 1677, pronounced him to be a "rash and fiery fellow," and, on Feb. 10, 1678-79, the same body directed that he be put out of the council.[3] He was too friendly to Berkeley to suit the tastes of the royal commissioners. His wife, Mistress Angelica Bray, will always be remembered as one of the "guardian angels of the rebel camp," as the ladies whom Bacon stood in front of his men at Jamestown to protect them while they were throwing up fortifications, were called. Her maiden name is not known. Col. Bray was a wealthy merchant and ship owner in Virginia. He died Oct. 24, 1691. He had three sons who left issue and a grandson, Col. David Bray, who was also councillor for a few months.
